The purpose of this project is to calibrate and characterize the Raman spectrometer that is in regular use within the UNCA Physics Department research program. The instrument exhibits some anomalous behavior including high wavenumber roll-off and consistent false peaks. The system will be evaluated by performing spectroscopy on several common calibrant materials such as silicone, diamond, and cyclohexane. Data on the functionality and efficiency of the Raman spectrometer will be obtained, and it will be determined whether these issues can be resolved using software calibration or hardware adjustment. Any necessary improvements will be made in order to enhance the future research outcomes of the department.
